In both cases, use the ball joint and tie rod separator tool to break them loose. Remove the gear box by removing the three long bolts through the frame. The box is heavy so be prepared to hold it so it does not land on something important (body parts). In the case of the rack and pinion, remove the two or four bolts holding the rack and pinion to the frame.
